metacool Thought of the Day Posted on 17 December 2007 by Diego Rodriguez "Most new ideas are bad; and the good ones are mostly not new." – James G. March
As you know, Jim March is damn smart, almost certainly the most prestigious living organizational theorist. My favorite line from him — in much the same spirit as above — came when I wrote him and asked if there were any breakthrough management ideas. His response “Most claims of originality are testimony to ignorance and most claims of magic are testimony to hubris.” At the same time, March would argue that the search for new ideas nourishes the human soul and actually does lead to some better ideas now and then! He is the poster boy for being able to hold two opposing ideas in his mind at once.
